During his SARF-Fellowship in autumn 2016, Matthias Mansen focused on documents, images and objeects related to the United States Exploring Expedition led by Ltd. Charles Wilkes from 1838-1842. Several collections which are today today part of the Smithsonian Institutions originate from this endeavour. In a lecture on 21 September 2017 in the National Museum of Natural History, he presented his preliminary findings.
